Background of the Study
Sustainable business practices refer to strategies that ensure a company operates in a way that is environmentally responsible, socially equitable, and economically viable over the long term (Elkington, 2023). In the textile industry, sustainability has become increasingly important due to growing environmental concerns, regulatory pressure, and changing consumer preferences for eco-friendly products. In Kaduna State, the textile sector is a significant part of the economy, with firms facing the dual challenge of maintaining profitability while adopting sustainable practices.
The relationship between sustainable business practices and profitability has been a subject of debate, as many firms fear that green initiatives may result in higher costs or reduced short-term profits. However, there is a growing body of literature suggesting that businesses that embrace sustainability can achieve better financial performance through improved efficiency, customer loyalty, and competitive advantage (Hernandez & Fernandez, 2024). This study will explore the effectiveness of sustainable business practices in textile firms in Kaduna State, examining their impact on profitability and long-term business success.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the global push for sustainability, many textile firms in Kaduna State have been slow to implement sustainable business practices due to concerns about the costs involved. While some firms claim that sustainability leads to higher operational costs, others argue that it contributes to profitability through long-term gains. This study seeks to empirically examine the impact of sustainable business practices on profitability in the textile industry in Kaduna State (Giwa & Sani, 2023).
